Honoring Our Service Men and Women

A brief ceremony was conducted at Pine Grove Cemetery today honoring those men and women who served in the military and now rest in one of our three cemeteries. Participating were members of Boy Scout Troop 223 and The American Legion, Furniture City Post #258. The boy scouts raised the flag, and placed a wreath by the flag. The Honor Guard of the American Legion performed the gun salute and played taps. Doug Compton, Senior Pastor at Alpine Baptist Church shared a brief message and led in prayer. Supervisor Alex Arends, Treasurer James Townsend, and Clerk Jean Wahlfield shared in the reading of the names of all those veterans burried in Alpine Township maintained cemeteries. The rain stopped just long enough to allow this, the 20th Memorial Day Service, to go on as scheduled.
