Celebrate Friday August 1 as Fred Schweitzer Day

Family and friends were on hand Saturday to greet Fred Schweitzer on his 80th birthday, and his retirement from the Alpine Township Fire Department after sixty (60) years of service.

The public and friends will have the opportunity to say "Thank You" to Fred this coming Friday, August the 1st, (the date Fred officially chose to retire), at Fire Station #1 on the corner of  Alpine Ave and Alpine Church Street.  Please stop in between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. for cake and refreshments and join us to thank Fred for the many years  service to the Township and the community.

At the last Township Board Meeting, the Board of Directors officially proclaimed August 1, 2014 as Fred Schweitzer Day.  The proclamation will be presented by members of the Township Board on Friday during the open house.

A big oak tree with roots along the creek bed got uprooted this weekend in Westgate Neighborhood Park
The tree created an attractive but dangerous playground
A crew from Brouwer Tree Service took care of the dangerous situation and removed the tree but not before enjoying a picnic in the  Park

Beautiful Weekend

It was a beautiful  early Sunday morning for a walk to Alpine Township's Westgate Neighborhood Park, as this family experienced.

About a mile away , at the Alpine Sports Complex,  the weather could not have been be much better for a soccer game.

Cherry Picking

This weekend, Alpine Township native and MLive reporter John Gonzales was in Traverse City telling everyone there that the cherries is Alpine Township are ready for the picking.  This is indeed the case at the John Steffens farm on Walker Ave jest south of 8 Mile  Rd.  There are plenty of cherries left there for the picking, as well as at the Klenk farm on 10 Mile Rd. just north of Fruitridge.
