West Michigan Walmart Store Employees Raise Funds for Children's Miracle Network

Employees from West Michigan Walmart stores got together Saturday morning at the Alpine Township Sports Complex for a softball tournament as part of their efforts to raise funds for the Children's Miracle Network..  Even the area market manager was on hand to umpire the first game.  When the dust settled, the real winners were the local kids who benefit from the Children's Miracle Network.

The goal of the network is twofold:

Help as many children as possible by raising funds for children’s hospitals.

2. Keep funds in the community in which they were raised to help local children.
The organization was founded by Marie Osmond and her family, John Schneider, Mick Shannon and Joe Lake.
As of 2011, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has raised more than $4.3 billion—most of which is donated a dollar or two at a time.

Shop with a Sheriff at the Alpine Township Walmart

To be escorted from Walmart in a patrol card by the Kent County Sheriff's Department is usually not something to brag about, but to be escorted in a patrol car to Walmart....now that turned out to be a real treat for about 50 children this early Sunday morning.  It was all part of the Kent County Sheriff's Department's "Shop with a Sheriff" program.  Over 50 kids met at Sam's Club's parking lot and paired up with a deputy or officer of the Kent County Sheriff's Department  and were transported by vehicles with lights flashing and sirens blaring to the nearby Walmart here in Alpine Township.  There they were met by other deputies who escorted the kids into the store and helped them spend about $100 each on clothing essentials for themselves.  In addition, participants were able to spend another $20 for either another family member or purchase a present for themselves.  The $6,000 used for this project came from generous contributors in the community.  Kids also ate donuts, received Junior Deputy t-shirts, and had the opportunity to have their picture taken with the deputy and Santa Claus.

An identical program took place later in the morning at the 28th Street Walmart.

SONIC COMING TO ALPINE TOWNSHIP

Monday, November 16, 2009 is the much anticipated opening day of the Sonic Drive-In Restaurant in Alpine Township. The restaurant is located on the corner of Henze Drive and Alpine Ave. No major traffic problems are anticipated as customers in their automobiles will be lined up in a "holding pattern" on the Walmart parking lot until a drive in spot opens up.
Employees are well prepared for service, many of them transfering from or having been trained at the Wyoming, Michigan restaurant.

Oh do you remember the old drive in restaurants? They are still ever so popular.

The drive through on the left, the drive-in on the right.
A well designed building, and covered picnic tables for those who prefer to sit outside rather than in their car.

Putting a few finishing touches on the building.
