Land & Company Receives Award for Crime Prevention

Land and Company was recognized Wednesday night for their crime prevention efforts at the York Creek Apartments in Alpine Township.  The company was cited for implementing policies and practices that include the screening of applicants, zero tolerance of illegal behaviour, good maintenance practices as well as a number of other multi-housing crime prevention practices.  The company was nominated by the Kent County Sheriff's Department and the award was presented at the the Awards Banquet of the Crime Prevention Association of Michigan held at the Comfort Inn Conference Center in Mount Pleasant.

A special recognition award was presented to Grand Rapids Chief of Police Captain Kevin Belk and the Grand Rapids Police Department for the exemplary action in response to the Rodrick Shonte Dantzler shooting spree that killed seven people, but could have been much worse if it weren't for the right actions taken by the Grand Rapids Police Department.  Special recognition  also went to the Grand Rapids Neighborhood Associations for their continued support of crime prevention initiatives.  Other local units and people recognized included the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol Unit, Outstanding Unit Award; Mary Lanning, Grand Rapids, Outstanding Volunteer of the Year; Andrea Pinner, Holland Police Department, Outstanding Youth/School Officer of the Year.
