Kudos go the the 35 "on call" fire fighters of Alpine Township who are well on their way to respond to about a 1,000 emergency fire and medical assistance calls this year. Alpine Township has a full time fire chief (Ron Christians) and the rest of the staff is paid for responding to calls from Kent County Dispatch. They are also compensated for time spent in training. Alpine Township has 3 fire stations covering 36 square miles.
Members of the department are in the process of forming the Alpine Fire Fighters Association, a non profit organization not directly associated to the Township, whose mission will be to take a more active role in Fire Prevention and community activities.
Alpine Township can be proud of its fire fighters for their professionalism and for the personal sacrifices they are willing to make.
