COMSTOCK PARK, Mich.- If you drive down West River Drive in Downtown Comstock Park, don't be alarmed to find that our Panther green and gold has been replaced with purple.
Purple banners currently adorn the lampposts throughout the Comstock Park business district. The purple banners are part of the "Paint the Town Purple" campaign that was launched Wednesday, May 1, 2013 by the Relay For Life of Comstock Park Committee.
Alpine Township and Plainfield Township have signed proclamations to declare the month of May "Paint the Town Purple Month", which includes the entire Comstock Park area. The Relay For Life of Comstock Park Committee is asking all Comstock Park residents and businesses to participate in the event by decorating themselves, storefronts, houses, cars, etc. purple on May 10.
"The goal is to raise awareness about the upcoming Relay For Life of Comstock Park," said Kari Kippen, Event Chair. "We hope to see a lot of purple to get people into the spirit of the Relay being held at Comstock Park High School on May 17 and 18."
"Anything you want to do to decorate your house or business in purple will do", said Kippen. "At other events around the country, some people planted purple flowers, spray-painted their front lawns, hung purple ribbons and streamers, and even painted their driveways purple. Some people do some really wacky things."
